Head Pastor’s Job Description

Job Summary

The Head Pastor is the principal leader, vision caster, and administrator of the Church. He/She, with the assistance and in close coordination with the Associate Pastor(s) and the Church Council, is in-charge of the spiritual welfare of the Church and in the overall planning and implementation of all the vision, mission, ministries, plans, goals and objectives.

Relationship to the Church Council

The Head Pastor works closely and coordinates with the Church Council in the execution of his duties and responsibilities.

Reports to

The Head Pastor reports to the Church Council in general and the Church Moderator in particular.

Qualifications

The Head Pastor must be a person who exemplifies a godly character, is compassionate in recognizing and meeting the needs of others, and demonstrates a high level of competence. He/she must have at least 5 years of training and/or experience in a pastoral ministry.  He/she must at least have a bachelor’s degree in Bible school or seminary. He/she must be either North American-born or Philippine-born but at least has experienced ministering to people of North American culture. He/she must be fluent in speaking and preaching in both Tagalog and English languages.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Responsible in regularly proclaiming/preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ, to the whole congregation, both in Tagalog and English worship services and in other ministries. As well as shepherding the whole flock.
  2. Leads with passion, vision, anointing, and enthusiasm in providing oversight in all areas of church life and the ministerial staff.
  3. Actively works with the Church council and the Associate Pastors in carrying out the church’s vision and mission as well as in fulfilling the purposes of the church, i.e., in worship, discipleship, fellowship, ministries, mission and evangelism.
  4. Leads in establishing the church’s long-term and short-term plans, goals and objectives for developing the spiritual potential and growth of the church.
  5. Trains/equips the church leaders and members to become effective, obedient, and powerful leaders and disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ.
  6. Participates/attends continued professional growth and development for himself/herself as well as studies the Word of God at a consistent depth for adequate teaching and preaching.
  7. Oversees staff development to ensure that Associate Pastors and other ministerial staff has the resources necessary to fulfill their duties and responsibilities.
  8. Ensures that Associate Pastor(s) and other ministerial staff help other church leaders to plan and execute specific programs and activities.
  9. Ensures to reach out the inactive members as well as the un-churched and unbelievers.
  10. Assists the Associate Pastor(s) in executing the church’s spiritual events.
  11. Ensures that visitation program, counselling, and training programs of the church for discipleship, outreach/mission and evangelism are carried out well.
  12. Preserves and promotes church unity; works well with the people in the church exhibiting the five-fold ministry, i.e., the apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers.
  13. Strengthens and supports the church’s Sunday School classes, prayer ministries and meetings, fellowships, camps, educational programs, church planting/outreaches, etc.
  14. Works together with the Associate Pastor(s) regarding communicants and/or water baptismal classes as well as the evaluation of candidates.
  15. Administers Christian sacraments and ceremonies like Holy Communion, Water Baptism, Child baptism/dedication, weddings, funerals, etc. with the assistance of the church deacons and/or Associate Pastor(s)
  16. Holds office at the church for the schedule agreed upon by the Church Council.
  17. Participates in or attends intra-church and inter-church fellowships, Northern Plains conferences, and other seminars/workshops, meetings, camps, activities, related to his/her duties and responsibilities.
  18. Acts as an ex-officio member of the Church Council and of all boards and committees.
  19. Gives monthly, mid-year, and annual accomplishment reports to the Church council.
  20. Performs other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Church Council.
